Social Media Exchange: SMEX

SMEX who they are and what's their mission?
Founded in May 2008, Social Media Exchange provides training and consulting to civil society and nonprofit organizations in Lebanon and the region. Their mission is to make sure that the Internet lives up to its promise to expand each individual and every community’s agency over their own lives. They believe that to make this happen they must partner with those who are already working for positive social change and sustainable development and help them strategically integrate new, affordable media into their programs and projects as a means of self-empowerment and self-advocacy. Their strategy for achieving this mission focuses on three main areas:
  • Encouraging media literacy and raising awareness about digital and social media, especially among youth and trainers, through concepts, case studies, and the translation of key materials into Arabic.
  • Helping organizations develop sustainable, collaborative strategies for incorporating digital and social media into their programs.
  • Increasing access to the Internet.
They set out to achieve these goals by developing curricula tailored for Lebanon and the Arab environment and partnering with media pioneers and development organizations worldwide.
SMEX beirut is a social enterprise that offers training and consulting on social media and online strategy to both nonprofit and for-profit organizations in Lebanon and the Arab world.

Twitter is the best way to discover what’s new in your world.

Twitter is a real-time information network that connects you to the latest information about what you find interesting. Simply find the public streams you find most compelling and follow the conversations.
At the heart of Twitter are small bursts of information called Tweets. Each Tweet is 140 characters in length, but don’t let the small size fool you—you can share a lot with a little space. Connected to each Tweet is a rich details pane that provides additional information, deeper context and embedded media. You can tell your story within your Tweet, or you can think of a Tweet as the headline, and use the details pane to tell the rest with photos, videos and other media content.  See it in action.

You don’t have to tweet to get value from Twitter

You don’t have to build a web page to surf the web and you don’t have to tweet to enjoy Twitter. Whether you tweet 100 times a day or never, you still have access to the voices and information surrounding what interests you. You can contribute, or just listen in and retrieve up to the second information. Some people never tweet, they simply use Twitter as a way to get the latest information on their interests.

Twitter for Businesses

Twitter connects businesses to customers in real-time. Businesses use Twitter to quickly share information with people interested in their products and services, gather real-time market intelligence and feedback, and build relationships with customers, partners and influential people. From brand lift, to CRM, to direct sales, Twitter offers businesses a chance to reach an engaged audience.
For more information, check out Twitter 101 for Businesses, our guide to doing business on Twitter.

Twitter around the world

Twitter is based in San Francisco, but it's used by people in nearly every country in the world. Twitter now comes in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. People can change their language preference in their user settings with just a few clicks.

Twitter for SMS is an instant infrastructure for mobile communications. Here’s a list of all the countries that offer Twitter for SMS. We are actively working to add more countries and more short-codes to the list everyday. Check back for updates.

A few Twitter facts (updated September 14, 2010)

What's Google?

In completion to our visit to USA. We visit an amazing, wonderful and fabulous place in San Francisco It's Google.
YAh Google a search engine that all user's of internet know it.
Have u ever asked your self from where Google's name come from and what do they mean by Google?
I was there in Google's Location and ask's a lot of questions about it; and here there are......

  • From Where does Google's name come from and what do they mean by Google?

You will be surprised when you know that the real name of Google supposed to be Go with hundreds or million of zero's.
But Google's name come from a fun miss spelling upon registering it so it remains Google after that.
So come on let's Google it. HaHaHa just kidding

  •  Anyway, What's their main goal?

their main goal is to organize the world's information and make it universal and useful.

  • How many staff are there in Google's Home?

Listen carefully how many.....
20,000 Staff worldwide
8000 staff in Google's location

  • Environmental Condition
There are all kind of relaxing and having fun
For example there are playgrounds, gym, Swimming pool, and so many things....
  • The question here is " Why all of that it's a place to work or what?"
yup it's a place for work but to get a high professional of work; employees must be comfortable and relax. In this way they can solve most of the problems they may faces.

I like that can I work here :)

There are bicycles everywhere surrounding the building.
the reason of these bicycles is that staff can use them to move between buildings. so in this way they will not be late for their meetings.
And to have clean environment
One more thing is that, you can ride any bicycle stopped anywhere

  • The amazing part is this.....
  • What about Cafeterias
Do you know how many cafeterias are there in Google????

There are 18 cafeteria yes 18
and the amazing part is that every thing is for free. You can take food and drinks for free; you don't pay anything.

  • But why this huge number of cafeterias?
Now listen to the answer
There are 150 rooms in Google building, so there role is that there must be maximum 150 feet far from food.  for that there are 18 cafeteria.....

I GUESS THIS PLACE IS A HEAVEN
Thanks a lot for Relief International and special thanks for Kristin Smart that works hard in this program and do her best to take us there even that this visit wasn't in program schedule.
